Moonshine Runners, also referred to as Samogonki or Spanking Runners, is an exhilarating arcade racing game set in a mysterious galaxy teeming with diverse creatures. Initially, the inhabitants live in harmony until an Evil Mage invades their realm, transforming them into menacing monsters and establishing a toll system at the portals connecting various planets. Determined to reclaim their freedom, the creatures must engage in fierce races against the Mage's soldiers and ultimately confront the main antagonist in a climactic showdown.
Players can dive into the action by selecting from a roster of 10 unique characters, five of whom are available from the start, while the remaining five can be unlocked through gameplay. Each character boasts distinct attributes such as speed, handling, and mana recharge, offering players diverse racing experiences. Additionally, the customizable vehicles allow racers to disassemble and reassemble their rides, tailoring them to their individual play styles. As racers compete, they can unleash unique "spells" encompassing offensive, defensive, and special abilities, including short bursts of flight or enhanced speed, with further customization options available as the game progresses.
In addition to the traditional racing mode, Moonshine Runners features a captivating "turn-based" race format. This mode allows players to strategically set waypoints from a top-down perspective and time their spell activations for maximum impact, adding a layer of foresight and tactic to each race. This innovative approach can be employed before any race, letting players plan their strategies and optimize outcomes.
The game forgoes a conventional career menu, instead placing players in an immersive environment where they drive their heroes around the planets. By visiting specific locations, players can access racing events or the garage to customize their vehicles. The in-game economy revolves around collecting "bottles" during races, which serve as currency for vehicle upgrades and spell enhancements, ensuring adventurers can improve their abilities and equipment as they journey toward ultimate liberation.
