Futurama
Futurama is an animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company that has transcended the boundaries of traditional animation. The narrative revolves around Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy from late-20th-century New York City who finds himself unintentionally frozen for a millennium. Awakening in the vibrant, retro-futuristic 31st century, Fry takes on a new role at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery service that opens the door to bizarre adventures among aliens and robots.
The concept of Futurama was conceived in the mid-1990s while Groening was also working on The Simpsons. He enlisted David X. Cohen to assist in crafting rich storylines and unique characters, culminating in a pitch to Fox that would change the landscape of animated sitcoms. The series graced the airwaves from March 28, 1999, to August 10, 2003, captivating audiences with its extraordinary humor and inventive storytelling before its initial run concluded.
Despite the series ending, Futurama continued to engage fans through reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim from 2003 to 2007, enjoying a dedicated following. The franchise was revived in 2007 with the release of four direct-to-video films, the last of which hit the shelves in early 2009. Comedy Central later partnered with 20th Century Fox Television to bring back earlier episodes and present the films as 16 new, half-hour episodes, effectively constituting a fifth season and reigniting the love for this eclectic show.
