Briscola

"Briscola" is a cherished Italian card game that utilizes a 40-card deck, making it a favorite among card enthusiasts. The game begins with shuffling the deck, after which each player receives three cards. A single card is then placed face up on the table, which becomes known as the Briscola—this card designates the trump suit for the duration of the gameplay. The remaining cards are kept face down, partially covering the Briscola. If a player holds the deuce of the trump suit at the outset, they may opt to retire the Briscola, although this choice can only be made before the first hand is played, particularly in a four-player setting where teammates may choose to reveal their cards to each other.

The flow of the game is counter-clockwise, with the player to the dealer's right leading the first trick. This player plays one card face up, followed by each participant in turn. The winner of that hand is determined based on two primary rules: if any trump cards have been played, the player showcasing the highest-ranked trump card takes the win. Conversely, if no trumps are in play, the individual with the highest card of the lead suit emerges victorious. Distinct from many other trump card games, players are not obligated to follow the lead suit, allowing for a more strategic approach to gameplay.

Once a trick has concluded and a winner is established, that player collects all cards played in that round and places them in their own face-down pile. In games involving four or six players, team dynamics may mean that one player gathers all tricks won by their partners. Following this, each participant draws a card from the remaining deck, beginning with the trick winner and continuing in a counter-clockwise direction. It’s important to note that the last card drawn at the end of the game should always be the revealed Briscola.

At the conclusion of the game, players tally the point values of the cards they have collected in their piles. Intriguingly, "Briscola" doesn't require any registration, making it easily accessible for anyone eager to join in on the fun.
